3 nights /4 days Rwenzori gateway community experience.

Day 1 Travel from Kampala to Kasese and proceed to Ruboni community camp in the foothills of Rwenzori.  You will stay either camping, staying in the self-contained or none self-contained rooms at the edge of Rwenzori Mountains National park. On arrival relax at the camp. Before dinner you will be welcomed to the traditional dance performance by the local community members then retire to dinner and overnight.

Day 2 Today, you will be exploring the community including natural and cultural wonders. Options include the hill climb tour up to 2400m with opportunities of viewing Margherita peak (5109m) being the highest point in Uganda, Forest walk in the indigenous forests neighboring the park or village walk learning the local livelihoods, culture and way of life. After one activity relax at the camp as you gaze the breath taking views from the camp balcony while you read a book or take the chefs special of the day.

Day 3 After an early breakfast, head to the nature walk in the park. You will be walking to Nyabtaba, the first camp on the Rwenzori central circuit trail, at altitude 2632m. On return, you will be ready for a hot shower, dinner and early bed time.

Day 4 After an early morning breakfast, you will proceed back to Kampala or the next destination of your trip

Community Forest walk: Get immersed in the rain forest jungle, cross glacial rivers and learn more about wildlife. Your local guide will lead you alongside Mubuku River, where you will explore the lush forest surrounding the mountains. Explore the indigenous forest shared with the Rwenzori mountains national park without climbing the high mountains. Cross the beautiful glacial rivers as you learn more about the wildlife unique to this beautiful nature reserve. On a lucky day, you may spot the elusive three-horned chameleon, which can only be found at altitudes of over 3,000 meters

Community Village walk : A perfect way to experience village life in Uganda. You will meet the village storyteller, farmer, blacksmith, traditional healer, and a local basket weaver’s family as you see how the Bakonzo tend their animals and crops.  From the black smith, you can make or buy and take home, your own self-made traditional tools. The tools made include; knives, spears, pangas, crafts making tools etc.

Community Community hill climb trek: Climbing to 240m, the trek takes you through the local homes and forested valleys to a magnificent view point where you see margarita peak, the highest point on the Rwenzori ranges at 5109m. From the top, enjoy the panoramic view of the homesteads placed on the hillsides, displaying the local settlement patterns. You can choose to stay an overnight on the hill campground a small additional cost.

Important to note about the walks: These walks are conducted outside the park (so you don’t pay park entrance fee to do them) and promoted by all accommodations in this location and they can be sold when you stay at any of the three community accommodation or other lodges in the area.

Traditiona dance performance: An impressive display of cultural dancing and music performed by the local community members. Enjoy the African moves and strokes of this mountain tribe accompanied by the African drum beats, traditional bamboo flute, xylophone and the rhythms of various traditional songs, almost tempting you to join the dance all the time. After each performance, the translator will tells you the meaning of the tune. this walk i exclusively arranged and sold by Ruboni community camp.
