Day 1 Travel from Kampala to Kisoro and proceed to Mgahinga community camp next to the Mgahinga national park gate. The cam has options of camping and bandas. On arrival relax at the camp or go to the visitor information center in the park gate to learn more about Mgahinga gorilla national park and the local area. Dinner and overnight

Day 2 After an early breakfast, head to the park. Optional activities include golden monkey tracking, nature walks or volcano climbing. On return from the park activity, take a good hot shower, dinner and overnight

Day 3 Today, you will be exploring the community. Options include village walks, birding tours, the Batwa trail experience, community caves or visiting the community farms and development project. After the community experience, relax at the camp or spend more time at the visitor information center.

Day 4 After an early morning breakfast, you will proceed back to Kampala or the next destination of your trip

Community activities in this area

Kisoro coffee tours: Hike through the communities to the coffee farmer, who shows you how coffee is farmed. During the visit you harvest your own coffee, locally roast it, grind it and make a cup of coffee where you will have a refreshing snack with attractive coffee aroma. At the end of the tour you get a coffee package to take home for friends and family. It is such a life changing coffee experience. In the evening you can have a visit to orphanage crisis center at Potters village in Kisoro town.

Cave and Congo boarder trail: Take a rustic walk through the community farm lands and villages around Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Enjoy the continuous settings of the three volcanoes as your local guide from Batwa community explains to you how the local people live and farm the terraces. You will reach the Congo boarder to compare the beauty between the two countries then go to Ruhengu Cave for historical indigenous people (Batwa) living experiences.

Batwa Village Walk: Visit the Batwa community, an indigenous people that live at the outskirts of Mgahinga National Park and get a chance to learn about their history and see how they live. Listen as they narrate their stories on how they used to hunt before they were evicted from the forest.

 King’s hill hike: It is a walk with a unique two in one caldera on its top where you will also have amazing view of Virunga ranges and part of Congo and Kisoro District. This is conducted in Mgahinga village and it will leave you puzzled how much natural beauty nature placed in this part of the country.

Batwa Experience: Inside the thick forest of Mgahinga national park, the tour takes you through the lifestyle the Batwa forest peoples lived before they were evicted from the national park. The Batwa guide will tell you how the forest used to be their home and how they solely depended on the forest economy through hunting and gathering. Several demonstrations to the clients during the tour such as showcasing how they used to harvest herbs for medicine and wild honey; fetching water using a bamboo made “mugs” and construction of grass huts they used to live in. The tour ends with a culture show at the entrance of the Garama cave, a symbolic place in the Batwa culture and the ceremonial place for Batwa leaders.

Lake Mutanda Eco community Centre: On arrival at Lake Mutanda, meet our guide for the eco tour. Proceed to take a boat ride to enjoy canoeing where you will encounter different species of birds. On the boat tour, you may find otters diving into the lake waters. During the tour, the lake is a perfect viewing spot of the Virunga Volcanoes. You will also meet and share with the women Handcraft Group who are engaged in conservation the Lake ecosystem. Buy some of the handicrafts products to support the local community women
