Rwenzori Homestay is an extended family setting that gives you an insight of living in the rural Uganda. It is a network of three homes (each with up to six members) living on the same collective property. This property doubles as a traditional farm filled with woodlots, local food and cash crops including bananas, coffee, vegetables and other seasonal crops. The family also rears chicken, rabbits and goats. You will be staying with one of the three families as you observe how they share life in this African village setting. During they stay, you will have a change to learn the agricultural value chain as you participate in the cultivation, growing harvesting and adding value to various crops such as coffee, cassava and bananas, giving you a great opportunity to share skills and knowledge with the family and community members.

The view from the home displays the portal peaks and foothills of Rwenzori Mountains, offering great views displaying the hillside farms and homesteads. you have plenty of playing space on the property suitable for groups and families.  During leisure, you will network with the local residents playing local games and listening to stories from the extended family members. The family offers three furnished private bedrooms to the visitors each night. we also provide a great camping opportunity for those with their own camping gear.

Rwenzori homestay gives you an opportunity to experience the Rwenzori Mountains in a unique way while using the local home as your base enabling you to witness and freely participate in the traditions of this mountain community. The other unforgettable activities you can participate in include; Trekking the hills or the high mountain tours to the Rwenzori peaks, going to the local market, visiting the local schools and churches or going to the hill farms to harvest the produce.

How to get there:

The home is located at the base camp within walking distance (200m) to the starting point of Rwenzori trekking and community tours and 25 km from Kasese town or 15km from the Nkenda electric terminal junction.

Take a bus from Kampala downtown to Kasese via mubende fort portal highway. In Kasese, you have options of getting a special hire or using a bodaboda (Motorcycle taxi) to travel the 25km.

Optional: you may ask the bus to stop you at Nkenda electrical terminal locally called “Kisanyarazi” so that you don’t have to go to Kasese town and drive back the 10km. From Nkenda your special hire or bodaboda will take you for the 16km up to Rwenzori homestay.
