Bunyangabu Beekeepers Cooperative Bunyangabu Beekeeping Cooperative (BBC), is a community organization that deals with bee keeping and bee products in an environmentally and community sustainability way. BBC is located 22kms from Fort Portal and 50kms from Kasese town on the Fort portal Kasese highway. It owns an apiary and a well-stocked store with all be products you could think of and all types of bee-hives ranging from traditional to modern ones.

From their training center, BBC stocks pure honey, beeswax candles in a variety of designs, and propolis tinctures in small bottles, all of which are for sale. If you are lucky, when you visit, you can pick up some of their award-winning cream honey – the best in East Africa. This beekeeping cooperative offers a true honey experience, where visitors can see honey processing, taste honey from the comb, and even make their own candles to take home.

BBC runs meetings and workshops for beekeepers from all over East Africa; beekeepers from the community get free trainings that help with their crops and health, and teach them about the multiple benefits of bees. Every workshop is paired with an HIV/AIDS awareness training to curb infection rates among community members.

Listening to the guide as you hear the life of bees and how they manage to keep united and making tons of honey per day through a special communication network.

Responsible Travel

The cooperative buys local bee products and it is owned by the local farmers themselves.
Some of the money is used to conduct living and production skills trainings such as HIV sensitization, small scales business development and setting a coffee cooperative all that benefit the local people.
Beekeeping directly supports environment and agriculture naturally through pollination. Expansion of bees is good for the environment
The project employs the local youth of the areas hence serving the local job market
