Wawoto Kacel Cooperative Society Ltd – which means “Walking together” in the local language – is a social art & crafts cooperative. It is located in Gulu, Northern Uganda. The cooperative facilitates empowerment of the rural person through development of skills, talent and creativity to improve their quality of life. The cooperative was created in 1997, by a group of HIV positive women. Nowadays the Cooperative is composed by 150 working members producing a range of products in the different categories of embroidery, tailoring, tie and dye, weaving, beads and wishing cards. The art and crafts works produced are sold both on the local and international markets.
Besides art and crafts production, the cooperative offers accommodation in their cooperative compound in Gulu. The accommodation options include single, double and twin delux huts. The accommodation is in a beautiful and quiet environment, with a wide open garden that suits all kinds of travelers including families. Tourism and crafts is being uses at an alternative economic activity for the marginalized community members who include the women, HIV patients, IDPs and other poor but skilled community members.

How to get there
From Kampala. After crossing the railway and before the roundabout, you will branch off left following the sign of golden peace hotel. Cross the railway again and shortly before you reach the hotel, you will find Wawoto Kacel.
