The Elephant Home campsite is a community tourist accommodation located on the border of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The camp has onsite restaurant and curio shop, clean self-contained rooms, a none self contained twin cabin, camping grounds and a selection of village activities to participate in.

The Elephant Home campsite aims at using tourism to sensitize the community about the importance of Elephants and other wildlife by creating alternative livelihoods through tourism. During your visit, you have an opportunity of participating in several community and park activities. The community activities and experiences you can participate include the following;

Activities and experiences:

  • Equator village walks around the homesteads and cotton farms
  • Hill hike Village walks with the panoramic view of the park game and lakes
  • Arranged game drives/ safaris to Queen Elizabeth National Park
  • Accommodation in our campground or self-contained twin rooms

Highlights

  • Enjoy your lunch on the hill surrounded by the jungle as you take the views of Queen Elizabeth NP and the crater lakes.
  • Environmentally friendly ways of living in practice. Feel free to take part in operating some of our local technologies
  • Learning the farmers experience of growing cotton in a rural village in Uganda without irrigation and use of machinery
  • A selection of Ugandan organic souvenirs and tasty food products to choose from.
  • A cup of Ugandan coffee in the wilderness with beautiful sounds of humming birds in the background
  • Information about other local community and wildlife activities/destinations you can participate in during your trip.

Responsible Travel

  • Local employment is emphasized by the business principles. At least 95% of the labor force is local
  • The center provides space for the local produce and deliver all the information leading to the sale of local products to ensure increased sales and income to the local community members
  • The center provides conservation awareness about the National Park within the community
  • A percentage of the profits is reinvested in the conservation and development projects that help to change the life of the local people and conservation of the environment.

How to get there:

This community campsite is located 21.5km along Kasese – Mbarara road on the right from Kasese before Kikorongo town/junction. You will find the sign on the right reading “The elephant home and campsite”. When coming from the park gate or Mbarara, you will go past Kikorongo junction/town and then look out for the sign on your left about 1km past Kikorongo trading center.
